Cancún sits on the Caribbean coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo. Its 14-mile Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) is lined with all-inclusive resorts along white-sand beaches, while downtown (El Centro) offers local restaurants and markets. It is a leading gateway to the Riviera Maya, with easy access to Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá and Cobá.

Many high-rise hotels are located there, along with shopping districts including the Paseo Herencia and Palm Beach Plaza malls. Just north is Malmok Beach; nearby Hadicurari Beach (kiting), Arashi Beach and Boca Catalina (snorkeling) are popular spots.
